INTERCESSIONS – Sunday 21 February 2021

21 February 2021

Now we are in Lent, a time to look back on what we would like to change and a time to look forward to find what we might become. We come to you with full hearts and over-busy minds and once again are in awe that we, your creatures may approach all that is Holy and find your Love.

We thank you that we can call you Father and receive your unconditional love within which we pray.

We thank you for technology, the internet and Zoom which enables us, separated by the need to isolate and avoid the Covid virus, to still worship together, to discuss our faith in You and continue to try to make new disciples. Thank you for the fellowship of other Christians and the ability to see and talk to those we love, near and far away. We pray that these wonders will be used for the good of all people and ask protection for us all against the evil that it can carry into our homes.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

We pray for All Saints church in the Algarve, for Rev’d Mike and Father Paul, for our lay readers Terry, Kurt and Maurice and all those who hold office and give their time so generously in your service. Help us all, by leading lives that follow your Way, attract others to seek You in their lives.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

We pray for your Church worldwide, upholding what has become the most persecuted religion in the world. Bless your children who suffer because they believe and trust in You. Transform the hearts and minds of those who indulge in violence and do the devil's work and in forgiving them turn them away from evil. We pray that the Alpha courses will continue to spread your good news to bring your light into the darkness. On this first Sunday of Lent, we pray for the Church of the Province of Central Africa, bring faith, light, deliverance and healing to these diverse peoples.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

We hold before You the President of Portugal and the Queen of the United Kingdom, their governments and all world leaders. We pray that your Holy Spirit will sharpen their consciences, give them courage to make hard choices and wise decisions for the benefit of all, particularly as none of them has experience of a Pandemic. As Covid 19. rages, we thank you for selfless service of Doctors, nurses and health workers and those who maintain every day life often putting themselves and their families at risk. We are grateful that scientists have produced vaccines and pray that these will be distributed worldwide. Father God, as communities of fallible individuals, we pray for the holy gifts of self-discipline, awareness of the needs of others and mindfulness for the safety of others.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

Loving God, we pray for those who face difficulties in their personal lives, the sick, the bereaved and those with problems in their families, their relationships, in their neighbourhood or in their workplace. The virus has caused separation, isolation, loneliness, loss of jobs, income, hopes and dreams, may all seek your will, find patience and solutions and the knowledge that you share their sufferings and are with them.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

Lord of unending being, we pray for those whose earthly lives have ended and those who have recently passed away. You gave them breath and loved them through their lives, hold them now in your infinite tenderness and give them peace.. We give thanks for lives well lived and for happy memories for those who mourn and still miss them.

    Lord in your mercy
    Hear our prayer

Father, your amazing love is hard to grasp and impossible to repay. In thankfulness for lives set free to live, we offer you ourselves.

    Merciful Father,
    Accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
    our Saviour Jesus Christ.
    Amen.
